‘She’s An Illusion’ is a song about celebrity. It's about how we look up to and admire famous and extremely wealthy people. Perhaps we assume that because they are successful in their field, that their lives are perfect. That they are happy, lucky people to be emulated and even idolized to some extent. While happiness may be the case for some, it isn’t the case for many who live their lives in a gilded cage, imprisoned by their fame. Their lives are micro-managed in detail by those around them who see them as a commodity: An enterprise and a means to make money constantly. As such, their lives are often not really their own and what we, the general public, see is perhaps not the same as what happens behind the scenes.
‘She’s An Illusion’, is a reminder that celebrity is not necessarily the route to happiness. And while we should indeed recognise and appreciate the unquestionable talent that many celebrities demonstrate, at the end of the day, celebrity itself is a facade that can often hide much discontent. Riiver Brukes
Riiver Brukes has been making waves her way. Scottish born and currently Canadian, Riiver Brukes is a prime example of natural raw talent. Her unusual gritty and soulful voice brings a powerful edge to some amazing hook laden songs, and is influenced by a broad spectrum of genres and artists, but especially her passion for jazz and blues. Rising through a foundation built from various bands including pop band Cicero (#11 European Dance Charts), Edinburgh’s very own Riiver Brukes releases yes another killer song. Music that oozes nothing less than the attitude, character and soul of this Scottish Lassie.
