Mitch Malone Releases New Single and Music Video, “The Great Divide”
Anthemic rock track calls for unity over division ahead of Malone’s debut solo album, Dreams of Fire.
Rock musician Mitch Malone today released his second solo single and music video, “The Great Divide,” offering another look at his upcoming debut solo album, Dreams of Fire, arriving Oct. 23. The album brings together songs Malone developed over more than two decades and marks his first solo project after more than 40 years performing throughout the Southeast.
Following the August release of his first solo single, “Spider’s Web,” “The Great Divide” shifts from introspection to a broader message of choosing unity over division. The melodic, guitar-driven track builds from a restrained opening into a powerful rock arrangement, pairing lyrics about overcoming anger and division with a message of reconciliation and hope.
The song originated while Malone was experimenting with different guitar tones, which led him to develop the track’s distinctive progression. Malone developed the arrangement before sharing it with longtime lyricist and collaborator Brian “Daz” Wass, who wrote the lyrics around the idea of choosing love over hate and finding common ground, regardless of the forces that pull people apart.
“From the beginning, this song felt different from anything else I had written,” said Malone. “Brian heard something in it and came back with lyrics that captured exactly what the music needed to say. There is a lot that can divide us, but ultimately, ‘The Great Divide’ is about choosing what brings us together instead.”
The song’s message carries into its official music video, filmed inside a historic cotton warehouse in downtown Atlanta. Directed and produced by Madison Malone, the video features Malone and the band performing as the track builds from its guitar-driven opening into its soaring conclusion. Their performance is interspersed with imagery reflecting both sides of division, scenes of conflict and unrest contrasted with moments of reconciliation, homecoming and people coming together.
Malone performs the guitar work throughout the track, with Mark Vella delivering the song’s extended closing guitar solo. Vella recorded the solo in a single take, creating what became one of the defining moments of the finished recording. William Mills performs on bass, with Wass on drums.

Mitch Malone is an Atlanta-born rock guitarist, singer and songwriter whose music is driven by powerful riffs, memorable melodies and a lifelong passion for rock and roll.
