DJ/producer Zerb has carved out his reputation with a unique house sound and a string of international successes, including Mwaki, Addicted (with The Chainsmokers), and Location (with Ty Dolla $ign and Wiz Khalifa). His remix credits range from Coldplay to Kygo, Imagine Dragons, and OneRepublic. With “Sugar”, he once again proves his ability to reshape a track from the ground up.
While the original relied on deep house and organic electronic textures, Zerb expands the arrangement with swirling synth layers, soaring strings, disco handclaps, and driving basslines, building a euphoric momentum while keeping Francesco Yates’ soulful vocals at the core. The result is a remix that retains the light, summery spirit of the original, but shifts the energy towards golden-hour vibes – that magical transition from late afternoon to evening when the anticipation of the upcoming club night begins to build.
Looking back on the track’s legacy, Robin Schulz says: “10 years of Sugar! This album marked a turning point for me – both musically and personally. I’m beyond grateful to everyone who’s been part of my journey so far, and who’s still riding with me today.”
The numbers speak for themselves: released in July 2015, “Sugar” has amassed over 3 billion streams worldwide, been Shazamed over 12 million times, and received almost 1 billion views on YouTube – making it the third most-viewed video by a German artist ever. The single received Diamond certification in Germany, Platinum in the US, and Double Platinum in the UK. The Sugar album, released in September 2015, went gold in Germany and has clocked up more than 4.5 billion streams worldwide. It also spawned further hits, including “Headlights (feat. Ilsey)”, “Heatwave (feat. Akon)”, and “Show Me Love” with Richard Judge, all of which dominated the charts and airwaves.
The remix arrives not only in perfect time for the track’s 10th birthday but also just as Robin Schulz returns for the second leg of his summer residency at Pacha Ibiza. Four September shows with guests including Topic, Icona Pop, and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano lead up to a closing set on September 27 – just two days after the Sugar album’s anniversary. A fitting way to celebrate a track that continues to shape dancefloors, ten years on.
"Sugar (Zerb Remix)" by Robin Schulz featuring Francesco Yates is now available everywhere via Warner Music Central Europe.
