Edinburgh based singer-songwriter Michael Steele is set to release his latest single ‘Mosaic’ on July 11, offering a hauntingly beautiful first glimpse into his forthcoming EP of the same name (due July 25th).
Blending ambient textures, understated guitar work, and subtle synths, ‘Mosaic’ is anchored by Steele’s warm, introspective vocals. The live rhythm section adds a grounded, organic feel to the otherwise ethereal soundscape.
Recorded live and expertly mixed and mastered by Sam J Smith at Green Door Studios in Glasgow, the track feels both intimate and expansive, like a private confession whispered into a vast open space.
Thematically, ‘Mosaic’ captures the ache of unrequited love, but also the quiet peace that follows, the way memories, once painful, can take on a soft glow.
“It’s about how vivid those memories can appear when the longing eventually turns to a peaceful solitude,” Steele explains. “And finding the beauty in that.”
Rooted in a sense of emotional honesty and creative freedom, the single unfolds like a slow exhale, quietly powerful, deeply reflective, and beautifully unhurried.
A self-described genre-diverse outlier, Steele leans fully into his individuality, crafting music on his own terms, free from commercial expectations. ‘Mosaic’ reflects that freedom: a delicate, deliberate work that’s both deeply personal and quietly universal.
