Brazilian, Brooklyn-based dream-pop artist Late Again releases "Crazy or Stupid", out 8th July 2026. The second single from his upcoming fourth EP I Dreamt I Was Awake (September 2026) serves as an observational social commentary wrapped in irony, humor, and deceptively smooth summer energy. Watch the video here and listen on Spotify here.

The Song: Everybody’s Either Crazy or Stupid

"Everybody is crazy, or stupid, or crazy and stupid," Late Again (Rafael Melo) explains. "This is an observational social commentary that becomes a funny ballad that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Behind the irony and a quirky cast of characters (Fred, Brad, Jed, and Greg), the song taps into a bleak reality made easier to swallow with smooth summer energy and I feel it is the EP’s catchiest melody."

Rather than delivering heavy-handed critique, "Crazy or Stupid" uses humor as a vehicle for examining contemporary society’s contradictions. The track balances cynicism with accessibility, creating a listening experience that feels both satirical and genuinely moving. Its catchy melodic hook ensures the song’s darker observations slip past listeners’ defenses, landing with both comedic and emotional impact.

The Sound: Summer Irony

"Crazy or Stupid" exemplifies Late Again’s ability to blend genre-melding aesthetics with incisive observational lyricism. Drawing from dream-pop textures, alternative beats, melodies from his native Brazil, and cynical yet friendly lyrics, the track showcases the confident songwriting evident across I Dreamt I Was Awake.

The song maintains the sonic palette established on lead single "If You Have A Bridge (I’m Buying)"—blending North American indie aesthetics with Brazilian bossa nova melodies, Japanese ’80s grooves, and cinematic textures. It’s a sound that sits comfortably alongside contemporary alternative acts including Mac DeMarco, Tame Impala, Men I Trust, Clairo, Still Woozy, and The Marías.

Early Press Support

The single has already garnered support from key tastemaker outlets, Dork Magazine, Glam Glare, When The Horn Blows. This early support validates Late Again’s distinctive voice within the contemporary dream-pop landscape.

The EP: I Dreamt I Was Awake

"Crazy or Stupid" arrives as the second single from I Dreamt I Was Awake, following the lead single "If You Have A Bridge (I’m Buying)" (3rd June 2026). The six-track EP represents Late Again’s most ambitious work to date—a preamble to his debut album coming in 2027.

The EP showcases a confidence shift and deepened observational writing style, with each track exploring the space where lucidity and self-delusion coexist. Sonically nostalgic and welcoming without losing nuanced edge, I Dreamt I Was Awake crafts a world defined by Late Again’s genre-melding approach and ironic yet compassionate lyricism.

Recorded at Studio G (Brooklyn) and Evil Twin (São Paulo), the EP features drums from Thiago Dom (Kimbra, Duda Beat), bass lines from John Lisi (Twin Brother, John Roseboro), engineering from Nelson Espinal (Mdou Moctar, YHWH Nailgun, Sessa), and mixing from Heal Mura, his long-term Brazilian musical collaborator. The visual world is central to the new EP, materialized by a series of three music videos produced under the visual direction of Gabriel Rollinos (Tame Impala, Toro y Moi, Metronomy).

Live: 6 Oct – The Social, London, U.K.
