Newcastle indie-pop trio BEAR PARK, signed to Gary Powell of The Libertines' label 25 Hour Convenience Store, return with a bold and brilliantly bizarre four-track covers EP titled ‘GROWL’, out September 26, 2025.

Known for their jangly guitars, surf-infused hooks and razor-sharp charm, BEAR PARK are turning their sonic lens on four wildly different songs, spanning punk, dance, garage rock and metal — all reimagined through their signature indie-pop filter.

The first taste of the EP comes with ‘Teenage Bomb’, a cover of a cult classic from Scottish punk/new wave band The Needles, out July 25. Clocking in at eight minutes and exploding with raw energy, the track features a blistering guest appearance from Brian Robertson of The Damned on the epic, extended coda.

“We’ve been playing it live and it goes down like a bomb — we love it,” says frontman Guy. “We asked Brian if he’d play on it, and he did. It’s teenage angst, brutal rhythm and a long, loud ending. We’re very proud of it.”

Following that, BEAR PARK take on ‘Testify’ by electronic producer HiFi Sean and gospel legend Crystal Waters — originally released on Defected Records in 2016. Out August 29, their version nods to the dance floor while injecting a shot of rock’n’roll adrenaline.

“It’s a fabulous track,” says Shay. “We couldn't touch Crystal’s vocals, but we gave it a Bear Park hug — and it grooves.”

The EP closes with a double A-side release: a fuzzed-up take on the 60s rock cult hit ‘Shake Some Action’ by the Flamin’ Groovies, and a bold rework of Motörhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’, blending VU minimalism with Bear Park’s garage charm.

“‘Shake Some Action’ is a stormer,” says Adam. “It’s punk meeting rock at a crossroads — we love playing it.”
On ‘Ace of Spades’, Shay adds: “Lemmy wrote two versions — one heavy, one bluesy. It shows how great a songwriter he was. We tried to honour that with our own spin.”

After releasing their debut LP Head of the United States in June 2024 — produced by Gary Powell at Blast Studios and The Albion Rooms — BEAR PARK spent the year touring with The Libertines and The Lightning Seeds, and playing major festivals across the UK. With GROWL, they wanted to hit reset, explore new ground and reflect on their next chapter.

“After the album and touring, we hadn’t had time to write new material,” the band explains. “So we jammed out songs by other people, ones that took us out of our comfort zone. Eventually, we thought — let’s record them. These tracks deserved to be heard. It’s a Bear Park take on some brilliant songs, and we’re calling it GROWL — because that’s what bears do to greet one another.”

GROWL will be released one track at a time across three months, with full EP out September 26. Expect loud guitars, sharp suits, killer hooks — and that unmistakable Bear Park bite.
