The Offspring's enduring 1999 single, "The Kids Aren't Alright," has officially been certified 3x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The certification, awarded on November 14, 2025, recognizes 3,000,000 certified units in the United States. The digital single was released by Round Hill records on September 21, 1999, as the third single from the band's critically and commercially successful fifth studio album, Americana, which was released in November 1998.

"The Kids Aren't Alright" is noted for its somber lyrical themes, which stand in contrast to its upbeat, energetic punk rock sound. The song's title is a direct allusion to the 1966 track "The Kids Are Alright" by The Who. Frontman Dexter Holland has stated that the lyrics were inspired by visiting his old neighborhood in Huntington Beach, California, and learning of the tragedies and difficult lives that had befallen his childhood acquaintances, including one who died in a car accident. The track remains one of the band's most popular songs, ranking as their top track on streaming services with over 1.2 billion streams reported by Chartmetric.
