These Terms of Use govern access to PopFiltr's website, public pages, content, reader features, and publication-related communications.
PopFiltr is a publication operated through FiltrMedia, Inc. By accessing or using PopFiltr after the effective date above, you agree to these terms to the extent an agreement is permitted by applicable law. If you do not agree, do not use features that require acceptance and discontinue access except where the law gives you a right that cannot be waived.
Scope and Eligibility
These terms apply to www.popfiltr.com, its localized editions, feeds, public tools, policy pages, and other services that link to them. Separate written terms can apply to advertising, licensing, distribution, campaign, account, submission, or paid services. If separate terms conflict with these terms for a specific service, the more specific terms control for that service.
You must be legally able to enter the agreement that applies to your use. If you use PopFiltr for an organization, you represent that you have authority to act for it. PopFiltr is a general-audience publication and does not offer child-directed accounts or services.
Editorial Work, Press Releases, and Other Material
PopFiltr publishes original editorial work, reviews, commentary, interviews, profiles, playlists, reference pages, and source-provided material. A page labeled Press Release contains claims supplied by an issuer or its representative and is not represented as independently reported PopFiltr journalism merely because PopFiltr hosts, formats, distributes, caches, or translates it.
Bylines, labels, corrections, disclosures, timestamps, source notes, and linked policies form part of the context of a page. You may not remove or alter that context in a way that falsely represents the material's author, source, date, status, or editorial character.
Permitted Reader Use
PopFiltr grants you a limited, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to access and use public pages for lawful personal, informational, editorial-reference, and ordinary business-reading purposes. You may link to public pages, quote limited portions with fair attribution, use sharing tools as designed, and rely on uses otherwise permitted by law.
This license does not transfer ownership or authorize republication of complete articles, removal of rights or attribution notices, creation of misleading copies, resale of access, or exploitation beyond a legal exception or separate written permission. For licensing questions, use the rights and legal channel.
Intellectual Property and Attribution
PopFiltr pages contain material owned by FiltrMedia, contributors, licensors, issuers, photographers, artists, labels, platforms, and other rights holders. Copyright, trademark, publicity, database, and other rights remain with their respective owners. The PopFiltr name, visual identity, and original publication elements may not be used to imply endorsement, affiliation, or source authenticity without permission.
A press release or supplied asset can carry different rights from the surrounding page design and metadata. Availability on PopFiltr does not place material in the public domain. Rights concerns are handled under the Copyright, Rights & Takedown Policy.
Automated Access, Search, and Indexing
Ordinary search indexing, link previews, public feeds, assistive technology, and automated access that follows published technical controls and does not impair the service are permitted. You may not use bots, scrapers, crawlers, agents, or automated queries to bypass access controls, evade rate limits, overload infrastructure, collect personal data unlawfully, reproduce the publication at scale, manipulate metrics, test stolen credentials, or interfere with other users.
Machine-readable files and headers can state route-specific permissions or operational limits. They do not waive rights in content or authorize a use prohibited by law, these terms, or a separate license. PopFiltr may throttle or block automated traffic to protect availability and security.
Submissions and Communications
If you send a pitch, release, correction request, image, recording, quotation, comment, tip, document, or other material, you remain responsible for what you provide. You represent that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge, you are not impersonating another person, and you have authority to provide the material and request the intended use.
Do not submit material that is unlawful, threatening, malicious, deceptive, defamatory, privacy-invasive, infringing, infected with harmful code, subject to a duty you are not permitted to breach, or designed to manipulate publication systems. Mark confidential material clearly before sending it. Sending unsolicited material does not by itself create confidentiality, employment, agency, source protection, publication, payment, or review obligations.
License for Material You Ask Us to Use
You retain ownership of material you own. When you ask PopFiltr to review, publish, distribute, or otherwise use material, you grant PopFiltr and its service providers a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license limited to the requested and reasonably related publication purposes. That license includes the ability to receive, store, review, verify, edit for style or technical format, reproduce, publish, display, distribute, promote, cache, archive, translate, create accessible formats, and correct the material.
The license lasts for as long as reasonably needed to provide the requested use, maintain lawful archives and correction records, document permissions, and protect legal rights. It does not transfer your ownership or authorize unrelated merchandising. If you withdraw permission, we will evaluate future use and existing archives in light of contracts, reliance, public-record integrity, legal duties, and applicable rights.
Advertising, Services, and Editorial Independence
Advertising, sponsorship, affiliate relationships, licensing, or paid distribution must not be represented as independent editorial coverage. Payment, access, gifts, event admission, or a commercial relationship does not guarantee editorial publication, favorable treatment, timing, permanence, or a correction outcome. Material commercial relationships should be disclosed where they could reasonably affect how a reader evaluates the work.
Any price, scope, delivery term, cancellation rule, or refund right for a paid service is governed by the offer and separate terms presented for that transaction. PopFiltr may reject, delay, label, restrict, or remove paid or supplied material that creates legal, safety, rights, fraud, quality, or policy concerns.
Prohibited Conduct
- Break the law, infringe rights, invade privacy, harass people, facilitate abuse, or publish unlawful threats
- Impersonate a person or organization, falsify authority, forge source material, or misrepresent affiliation or endorsement
- Introduce malware, probe or exploit vulnerabilities without authorization, disrupt service, or bypass security and access controls
- Manipulate traffic, engagement, attribution, consent, search signals, advertising, or other measurements
- Harvest personal data, send spam, or use contact details for unlawful or unsolicited mass outreach
- Remove attribution or disclosures, present a press release as independent reporting, or create a deceptive copy of a PopFiltr page
- Use PopFiltr or its content to train, benchmark, or operate a commercial system where that use exceeds a legal exception or granted license
- Help another person evade these terms or continue restricted activity through a different identity, device, or service
Third-Party Links, Embeds, and Services
PopFiltr can link to or embed music, video, social posts, ticketing, stores, advertisements, event pages, and other third-party services. Their availability, accuracy, accessibility, security, prices, transactions, and data practices are controlled by their operators. A link or embed provides context or functionality and does not by itself constitute endorsement.
Corrections, Removal, Archives, and Availability
PopFiltr may correct, clarify, update, label, restrict, de-index, replace, archive, or remove material when warranted. A page may remain in an archive with a correction or status note to preserve the public record. Source-controlled press releases may require confirmation from the issuer before a substantive amendment, but PopFiltr may act independently for safety, rights, legal, or platform-integrity reasons.
We do not promise that any page, feature, translation, link, feed, or archive will always be available, current, error-free, or preserved in a particular format. Material editorial errors are handled without charge under the Corrections & Clarifications Policy and recorded within the scope of the public corrections log.
Privacy and Cookies
The Privacy Policy explains how personal data is handled. The Cookie Policy explains browser storage and similar technologies, and Privacy Rights provides request instructions. Do not use PopFiltr to collect or disclose personal data in violation of those policies or applicable law.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PopFiltr and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee completeness, accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, noninfringement, or that every error, malicious submission, third-party statement, or service interruption will be identified immediately.
Music, entertainment, business, legal, financial, health, travel, ticketing, and event information can change and should be independently confirmed before a consequential decision. Reviews and commentary are opinions. Press release claims are attributable to their stated source. Nothing on PopFiltr creates professional advice or a fiduciary relationship.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, PopFiltr, FiltrMedia, and their personnel and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, revenue, opportunity, goodwill, or profits arising from use of or inability to use the service. Any direct liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid specifically for the affected PopFiltr service during the preceding 12 months or US$100.
These limitations do not apply where prohibited, including to liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so part of this section may not apply to you.
Indemnity for Misuse and Submissions
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and indemnify PopFiltr and FiltrMedia against third-party claims, damages, and reasonable costs caused by material you submit, your material breach of these terms, your infringement or unlawful handling of another person's rights or data, or your intentional misuse of the service. This obligation does not cover claims caused by PopFiltr's independent conduct, unauthorized changes, or use outside the license you granted.
Enforcement and Termination
PopFiltr may investigate suspected misuse and may throttle, restrict, suspend, or block access; reject or remove a submission; preserve relevant records; or refer a matter to a provider or authority when reasonably necessary for safety, rights, legal compliance, or service integrity. We consider context and proportionality, but urgent risks can require action without advance notice.
Terms that by their nature should survive termination remain effective, including ownership, publication licenses already relied upon, archival records, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, and dispute provisions.
Disputes and Mandatory Rights
Before filing a claim, contact tos@popfiltr.com with the relevant URL, facts, requested outcome, and a way to respond. The parties should make a good-faith effort to resolve the matter informally. These terms are governed by applicable law, taking account of any mandatory consumer, privacy, expression, or other rights that cannot be waived by contract.
Nothing in these terms prevents either party from seeking urgent relief where necessary to protect safety, confidential information, intellectual property, service security, or a claim that would otherwise expire. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be applied to the maximum lawful extent and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
Changes and Entire Terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes in law, publishing practices, technology, security, or services. The date at the top identifies the current public version. Material changes may receive additional notice where appropriate. Continued use after revised terms take effect constitutes acceptance only to the extent permitted by law.
These terms, the policies they incorporate, and any service-specific written agreement form the entire agreement concerning the covered use and replace earlier terms on that subject. A failure to enforce a provision once is not a continuing waiver.
