Blanco Brown, born Bennie Julius Amey III in Atlanta, Georgia, built a career as a songwriter and record producer before his solo breakthrough. He produced for prominent artists such as Fergie and Pitbull, honing a sound that draws from his upbringing listening to both hip-hop acts like Outkast and country legends like Johnny Cash. This blend of influences is central to his musical style, often categorized as "country hip hop." In June 2019, following the release of his debut single, Brown appeared on the Billboard Emerging Artists chart at number 41.

"The Git Up" quickly gained traction after Brown posted a YouTube video with fellow artist Lainey Wilson, demonstrating a line dance for the song.
