“Muzosynth Orchestra : Vol. 1” est la culmination de nombreuses collaborations et amitiés dans une synthèse unique. Il présente des artistes-pionniers qui ont travaillé avec Muzosynth Orchestra, un collectif de New York composé d'artistes noirs, bruns et asiatiques fondé par Katherine Kyu Hyeon Lim et Joey Chang, axé sur l'improvisation multidisciplinaire.  

La scène musicale expérimentale de New York a été le foyer de Lim pendant des années maintenant. Le violoniste/compositeur sud-coréen a précédemment sorti l'album Starling, qui a reçu des éloges pour son « son édifiant », rappelant « des étendues » et « des aurores », et a été reconnu comme Album du Jour de Bandcamp et son single « As It All Goes By » comme l'un des Meilleurs Nouveaux Chansons de Paste Magazine.  

Pendant ce temps, après l’achèvement de ses études universitaires en 2018, Chang, pianiste taïwanais-américain devenu compositeur et producteur, s’est éloigné de son étude intensive des traditions classiques européennes et s’est tourné vers la recherche d’âme créative.  

“Muzosynth Orchestra: Vol. 1” harnesses the potential of creative freedom to make new playspaces and develop ideas that would never have arisen before. Each track was recorded spontaneously. No pre-chosen themes, no ideas - each one an unknown journey that the artists led each other into. Untethered from frameworks, they embrace collages, jarring juxtapositions, and intensified emotions.

The artists’ creative liberties call upon the freedoms their musicmaking stand for, restorative freedom to Black, Brown, and Indigenous peoples, autonomous freedom to Trans and queer people, protective freedom to vulnerable immigrants, cultural freedom of Asian, non-white and all historically persecuted and homogenized communities, and the liberation of all peoples under apartheid and neo-colonial suffocation.
