Tate Mcrae Earns RIAA Platinum for "Sports Car"

Canadian singer Tate Mcrae's single "Sports Car" was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on 6. októbra 2025. The certification recognizes 1,000,000 units sold and streamed in the United States. Released through RCA Records on 24. januára 2025, the track serves as the third single from McRae's third studio album, So Close to What.

"Sports Car" was co-written by McRae alongside Julia Michaels, Grant Boutin, and Ryan Tedder, with the latter two also handling production. The song, which uses vehicular metaphors to explore themes of non-committal relationships, was first teased by the artist at the Jingle Ball in December 2024. Upon its release, the single achieved significant international success, peaking at number nine on the Canadian Hot 100 and reaching the top ten in charts across Australia, Bulgaria, Colombia, Guatemala, Ireland, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, and the United Kingdom.

The certification marks another milestone for the Calgary-born artist, who has garnered over 15.1 billion career streams. McRae's sophomore album, THINK LATER (2023), was certified Platinum and featured the 4x Platinum single "greedy," which topped global charts. Her third album, So Close to What, continued this trajectory, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. McRae's accolades include being named Artist of the Year at both the 2024 and 2025 JUNO Awards, along with nominations for multiple Billboard Music Awards and MTV VMAs.
