Biography
Peso Pluma: Corridos Tumbados Go Global
From Zapopan to the Front of Corridos Tumbados
Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija was born in 1999 in Zapopan, Jalisco, and raised around Guadalajara, absorbing both the requinto traditions of Mexican regional music and the cadences of contemporary trap. Early projects — 2021’s Efectos Secundarios chief among them — circulated through Mexico’s regional scenes until collaborations began pushing him up the charts in 2022. What distinguished him was positioning: rather than crossing over sonically, he let corridos tumbados carry its own language — requinto-and-tuba arrangements, ballad storytelling, Gen-Z slang — into venues and playlists that had never booked it before, then institutionalized the movement by launching Double P Records ahead of his 2023 flagship releases.
2023: A Genre Hits the Mainstream
The dam broke in spring 2023. “Ella Baila Sola,” recorded with California’s Eslabón Armado, climbed into the Hot 100’s top five — the first música mexicana track to get that far, as GRAMMY.com noted — while “La Bebé (Remix)” with Yng Lvcas kept him on the chart simultaneously. That May he became the first regional Mexican artist to guest on a Bizarrap session, with BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 55 arriving as a global event. The same year stacked high-profile collaborations with Becky G and El Alfa onto a schedule showing no sign of slowing, and Apple Music’s live listings still count those 2023 singles among his most-streamed songs.
GRAMMY Gold with GÉNESIS
GÉNESIS arrived June 22, 2023 as the flagship release on Double P Records, its fourteen tracks doubling as a mission statement for corridos tumbados’ mainstream arrival. On February 4, 2024, at the 66th GRAMMY Awards’ Premiere Ceremony, the album won Best Música Mexicana Album (Including Tejano) over records by Ana Bárbara, Lila Downs, Flor de Toloache and Lupita Infante; absent from the room, Peso Pluma thanked fans on X, calling it “a dream not only mine but of an entire team,” as CNN en Español reported. Pitchfork noted it marked both his first nomination and his first win — a milestone for the movement he fronted.
ÉXODO and Arena-Scale Touring
June 2024’s ÉXODO answered whether the moment was sustainable: a double album pairing new corridos with a trap-and-hip-hop disc, it drew a second consecutive Best Música Mexicana Album nomination at the following year’s GRAMMYs. Live, the story grew bigger still. Figures cited via Billboard put the Éxodo Tour at $71 million grossed across 39 shows, with surprise guests ranging from Snoop Dogg to Becky G and 50 Cent; in 2025 he took La Doble P World Club across Europe for the first time, mixing festivals with headline dates and finishing at London’s Roundhouse on July 23, per Stereoboard.
Dinastía: The Family Album
December 2025 brought Dinastía, a fifteen-track collaborative album with his cousin Tito Double P conceived explicitly as a celebration of corridos tradition — “where we come from… what’s going to last,” he told Billboard. Commercially it behaved like a tentpole: No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums and Regional Mexican Albums charts and No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard 200 upon its January 2026 chart debut, among the strongest Latin openings of the year. A deluxe edition followed with tracks including “London,” “Chiclona,” “Ganga” and “Marianita,” and streaming platforms now file Dinastía alongside GÉNESIS and ÉXODO atop his catalog.
The Dinastía Tour and Cross-Genre Reach
Announced January 19, 2026, the Dinastía by Peso Pluma & Friends tour mapped a 30-date Live Nation-produced run of U.S. arenas and amphitheaters from early March through May 7, 2026 — West Coast openers through a Chicago United Center finale, with rotating “friends” guests promised in select cities and Madison Square Garden anchoring the calendar on April 30, per Billboard. Between legs he kept his cross-genre hand in, appearing with Bizarrap, Yeat and producer BNYX on “fuëgo,” a highlight of BNYX’s May 2026 album GENESIS FM. For an artist ticketing trade Stereoboard describes as Mexico’s most-streamed ever, the trajectory points less at crossover than at coexistence: corridos tumbados simply operating at pop scale.
