Garagee Gets Meditative in New Single and video 'Firewall' ft. Jane McArthur Ahead Of Album Release

Following up his single with The Church’s Steve Kilbey, a new era of Garagee’s music is being ushered in, blending his decadent instrumentals with incredible lyrical vocals. Jane McArthur’s low, emotional singing style compliments Garagee’s smooth, expert instrumentals, building a soft grungey atmosphere with chill drums, dusty guitar, and smooth, hushed harmonies. These first glimpses at the album ‘Garagee III’ give merely a taste of what’s to come. Rob McPherson, the man behind it all says,‍

“With this album, I called on the likes of Steve Kilbey, Jane McArthur, Lindsay Phillips, and Pink Tights, amongst others, who brought profound lyrical insight and expression, where each track had been written to serve the unique aesthetic and timbre of each singer… The album runs intentionally like an eclectic and personalized mixtape sent to someone you recently had a long and invigorating existential discussion with at a party.”

The video features black-and-white imagery of a couple, with bold white sketched overlays to roll out the lyrics and exaggerate visual cues in time with the music, creating a scrapbook-like artistic dream. The lyrics compliment the video, reflecting on human disconnectedness in daily life despite the connectedness of technology and playing on existentialism. It was important to McPherson that the music was packed with meaning, and this song reflects that clearly, with Jane McArthur’s expert prose.

The album, ‘Garagee III’, will launch at Mama Chen's (Footscray) on Saturday, August 24 and explores themes of our place in the world, technology, the shifting media landscape, and who we are.
