Canadian singer, songwriter, and dancer Tate Mcrae continues her ascent to pop superstardom, earning numerous accolades including Artist of the Year at the 2024 and 2025 JUNO Awards. The Calgary native has garnered over 15.1 billion career streams, building on the success of her 5x platīna single "you broke me first" and the 4x platīna hit "greedy." Her sophomore album, THINK LATER (2023), debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, solidifying her position as a major force in contemporary music.

Released on 2025. gada 21. februāris, through RCA Records, So Close To What is McRae's third studio album. The record explores a blend of pop, dance-pop power pop, and R&B sounds. McRae co-wrote the album with a team of high-profile collaborators, including producers Ryan Tedder, Blake Slatkin, Lostboy, Emile Haynie, Ilya, and Rob Bisel. The project was introduced by the singles "It's OK I'm OK," "2 Hands," and "Sports Car," with the track "Revolving Door" released alongside the full album. The album also features guest appearances from Alissa McRae and Zoey Tate.

On 2025. gada 6. oktobris, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) officially certified So Close To What as platīna, recognizing 1,000,000 certified units in the United States. The certification follows the album's immense commercial success; it became McRae's first album to debitē at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The record also topped charts in numerous other countries, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. To support the album, McRae is embarking on the Miss Possessive Tour in March 2025, her first-ever headlining arena tour.
