SUSS ta fi na farko, Birds & Beasts, a cikin Northern Spy Records, ya samu New York-based ambient trio ƙaunar ƙaunar, ƙirƙirƙirar da tsanani, ethereal soundcapes tare da primal currents na sauti wanda aka haifar da cikakken da rhythms na duniya kusa da mu. Amma a lokacin da ya ƙirƙirar ƙarfi na halitta, shi kuma ƙirƙirar da kowace m rage na matasa da jima'i.

"Kuma, shi ya zama kamar yadda m, ƙaunar ƙaunar da suka wuce, da suka wuce da suka wuce da wani matsa lantarki mai zafi," ya ce Bob Holmes (mandolin, guitar, harmonica, violin). Amma, ya ƙirƙirar, "A wannan ba ne Garden of Eden irin abubuwa." Pat Irwin (electric guitar, resonator guitar, keyboards) ya ƙara, "Na sani da rage na duniya a kan mu. Ina sani da jima'i, da kuma ƙarƙirar shi. A duniya yana da matsa lantarki da kuma akwai dabbobi."  

Birds & Beasts tallace a kan takardun shaida na SUSS na 2022 self-titled dubban album, da aka kira da Pitchfork a matsayin "muzik da ke ƙirƙirar duniya zuwa wani high-lonesome mataki, wani pastoral quintessence cewa ba za a canza kamar yadda shi ya ci gaba da kuma rufe, telescopes da kuma rike." Kamar yadda a gaban, da band hada da ambient synthes, loops da found sauti tare da mafi traditional Americana kayan aiki don samar da abin da Aquarium Drunkard ya bayyana a matsayin "country music, mutated and stretched along a vast horizon - open music for open souls."

Rising that SUSS recently released with Australian banjoist Andrew Tuttle, the tracks on Birds & Beasts are generally longer, with fewer elements and a greater sense of space.

As always, the band’s discovery of new horizons evolved organically. When it comes to defining the next step in their journey, “the music is the articulation,” says pedal steel guitarist Jonathan Gregg. “We’re not sure where we’re going, but we know when we’ve arrived, and it’s never the same place twice.”
Indeed, some tracks simply take longer to find their way than others. “Migration,” for example, dates from the early days of the band and is the album’s sole track to feature the late Gary Leib, who passed away suddenly in 2021. “We always loved the track but we never found the right fit for it,” says Holmes. "However, as we were making what was to become Birds & Beasts, it became obvious that the track was just waiting for us to come around to its way of thinking. You just need to listen to the music closely to hear what it’s always been trying to tell you.”
