Born in Winchester, VA – the hometown of Patsy Cline – Jake Kohn has the great history of country music in his blood. With his robust, lived-in baritone and strikingly mature songcraft, the 18-year-old troubadour paints a vivid picture of the struggles and hardships many Americans face, particularly those in his native Appalachia. Kohn first picked up the guitar at 11 and began writing songs as soon as he’d learned a few chords, taking inspiration from legendary country artists like Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash as well as perhaps his greatest influence, the late Justin Townes Earle. Having attracted the attention of countless young country fans by posting songs like “Fraterville, TN” on YouTube, Kohn soon began spreading his music to a wider audience with increasingly bigger shows around the Shenandoah Valley and beyond. “Frostbite” proved his national viral breakthrough, resulting in his Grand Ole Opry debut in the fall of 2023, earning him a standing ovation for his performance and a deal with Lockeland Springs/Atlantic Records later that same evening. Kohn has since maintained a strong focus on his songwriting while showcasing his evolving talent on stages across America, including headline shows, dates supporting such like-minded artists as Sierra Ferrell and Sam Barber, and festival appearances at Happy Valley, OR’s Pickathon, Louisville, KY’s Bourbon & Beyond, and more. Now, with the long-awaited release of Where Do We Go From Here?, it is abundantly clear that, for Jake Kohn, the sky is the limit.
