Luke Combs's cover of the Tracy Chapman classic "Fast Car" has been certified 8x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The certification, dated October 6, 2025, signifies 8,000,000 certified units sold in the United States. The single was released on March 24, 2023, via Columbia Nashville and River House Artists as part of Combs's album Gettin' Old.
The original "Fast Car" was written and recorded by Tracy Chapman for her 1988 self-titled debut album. Released as her debut single on April 6, 1988, the song became a top-ten hit, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and earned Chapman a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Combs, who has cited the song as a favorite from his childhood, released his country rendition to widespread commercial success. His version topped Billboard's Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts in 2023 and reached number two on the Hot 100. The cover's success led to Chapman winning the Country Music Association Award for Song of the Year, making her the first Black person to win the award. In February 2024, Combs and Chapman performed the song together at the Grammy Awards.
