Carrie Underwood's hit single "Last Name" has been certified 2x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the organization announced on October 30, 2025. The certification recognizes 2,000,000 units in sales and streaming equivalents in the United States. Released by Arista Nashville, the song was the third single from Underwood's highly successful sophomore album, Carnival Ride, which was released on October 23, 2007.

Co-written by Underwood with Hillary Lindsey and Luke Laird, "Last Name" tells the story of a woman who, after a night of impromptu fun, ends up marrying a man in Las Vegas without even knowing his Last Name. The track, officially released as a single on April 7, 2008, showcases a rebellious and playful side of the artist, similar to her previous hit "Before He Cheats." The song was a critical success, earning Underwood her third consecutive Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards.

Carrie Underwood first rose to national prominence after winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. Her debut single, "Inside Your Heaven," made her the first country artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Her first album, Some Hearts (2005), became the best-selling debut album by a solo female country artist and earned her a Grammy for Best New Artist. The follow-up, Carnival Ride, continued her commercial dominance, selling over half a million copies in its first week and winning two Grammy Awards. Underwood's consistent success established her as a major force in country music, a status she maintains with a career that includes a planned return to American Idol as a judge for its twenty-third season in 2025.
