The Finnish symphonic metal group Apocalyptica has achieved a new milestone in the United States, with their 2007 album Worlds Collide officially certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The certification, dated December 1, 2025, recognizes 500,000 units in sales and streaming equivalents. Released on September 13, 2007, the album was issued through a consortium of labels including 20-20 Entertainment Llc, Jive, and Harmageddon Records.
Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Apocalyptica formed in 1993 at the world-renowned Sibelius Academy. The group, consisting of classically-trained cellists, gained initial fame for their unique interpretations of heavy metal classics, beginning with their 1996 debut, Plays Metallica by Four Cellos. Over the decades, they have carved out a distinct niche in the rock and metal worlds, blending classical instrumentation with the power and aggression of heavy metal. The band's current career status is described as "mainstream" with a "steady" trend, supported by over 1.1 million Spotify followers and more than 3 million monthly listeners.

Worlds Collide was a pivotal release for Apocalyptica, marking a significant shift towards incorporating guest vocalists and original songwriting alongside their instrumental work. The album featured several successful singles, including "I Don't Care," a collaboration with songwriter and vocalist Adam Gontier that remains one of their most-streamed tracks, and "I'm Not Jesus." This collaborative approach helped broaden their appeal and solidify their international presence. The band maintains a strong global following, with a particularly large audience in Mexico City, and has amassed over 1 million subscribers on YouTube.
